Alcohol and Drug Services has undertaken a Cannabis education campaign aimed at informing the public that Marijuana is still a drug. According to the 2005 Alcohol and Drug Survey, Marijuana is the most commonly used drug in the Yukon by a segment of the population. The campaign, which included bus, print and radio advertisements, speaks to parents and youth.

As part of National Addictions Awareness Week 2007, Alcohol and Drug Services invited one school in each of the four rural Yukon regions to participate in a mural project. The project asked students in rural schools to visually express the choices they were making for healthy lifestyles.

Ross River School, Eliza Van Bibber School (Pelly Crossing), Kluane Lake School (Destruction Bay) and J.V Clark School (Mayo) all participated in this year’s Mural Project. Students from Kluane Lake and Eliza Van Bibber schools have graciously given us permission to post their artwork.

Youth from rural Yukon participated in a special event for National Addictions Awareness Week. The drawings were created by Calvin Menzi, Christianna Joe, Oprah Harper, Maryann Sam, Kala Joe, and Thor Harper.
